As the New York Yankees prepare for the American League Wild Card series next week, concerns linger over the availability of star slugger Aaron Judge, who is currently dealing with a calf injury. Despite the team's apprehension, Judge himself remains optimistic about his return to the field.

“That’s what the plan is,” Judge told reporters. “Try to get my body ready so I’m ready to go.”

Judge's goal is to be available for Game 1 of the Wild Card series, which is scheduled to commence at Yankee Stadium next Tuesday against an AL opponent yet to be determined.

Injury Details and Recovery Timeline

Judge was placed on the injured list this past Saturday following a right calf strain. He later clarified the specific nature of his ailment, identifying it as a soleus muscle strain. This particular muscle is critical for activities like running and hitting, skills the Yankees heavily rely on from their powerful hitter as they aim for a deep postseason run.

The slugger confirmed he received a Platelet-Poor Plasma (PPP) injection in his calf on Monday. He and the team are now awaiting medical clearance to resume baseball-related activities involving his leg.

While Judge is determined to play, manager Aaron Boone presented a contrasting viewpoint on Tuesday.

“We’re planning on him not being a part of that,” Boone informed reporters regarding the AL Wild Card series, though he stopped short of officially ruling him out. The Yankees retain the flexibility to finalize their roster in the coming days.

A significant implication is that if Judge is not included on the Wild Card roster, he would be ineligible to play until the Yankees advance to the AL Division Series, which requires winning the best-of-three Wild Card matchup.
