Caitlin Clark has once again demonstrated her exceptional talent on the court, earning the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month award for June. This recognition follows a season where her contributions have frequently made headlines, often beyond her on-court play, but consistently highlight her remarkable dominance when healthy.
The Player of the Month honor marks the second time in Clark's professional career she has received such an accolade, having previously been named Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month in August 2024. She now shares a distinction with Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings, as the only athletes in Indiana Fever history to achieve this award; Catchings secured it three times during her illustrious career.
June Dominance and Statistical Prowess
Clark's performance throughout June was nothing short of sensational. Across 10 games, she averaged an impressive 21.9 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.0 rebounds. Her shooting percentages were strong, hitting 45.6% from the field and 35.1% from beyond the arc. These statistics placed her fourth in the WNBA for scoring and second for assists.
Her leadership was pivotal in guiding Indiana to a strong 7-4 record for the month, while also powering the league's most potent offensive unit, which averaged 95.5 points per game during that period.
Key Performances and Historic Records
Among her standout displays was a game on June 11 against Chicago, where she erupted for 32 points and distributed 10 assists. In that contest, Clark and teammate Aliyah Boston made WNBA history as the first pair of teammates to each record a 30-point double-double in the same game. Just five days later, she followed this up with another stellar outing against Toronto, tallying 21 points and a season-best 14 assists in a victory.
From June 11 to June 22, Clark established a new WNBA record, achieving at least 20 points and five assists in six consecutive games. This marked the third occasion in her career that she has sustained a streak of five or more games reaching these benchmarks—a feat that all other players in the league's history combined have accomplished only three times.
Injury Interruption and Upcoming Milestones
This remarkable streak concluded when a back injury forced Clark to exit Indiana's game against Phoenix in the third quarter on June 24. Prior to her departure, she had already contributed 19 points and eight assists. This particular game also saw Alyssa Thomas make contact with Clark's neck during a play, resulting in a flagrant foul.
As July commences, Clark continues to approach significant career milestones. She needs just nine more assists to reach a career total of 600, and only five three-pointers to become the fastest player in WNBA history to sink 200 career shots from beyond the arc.
