Gypsy Rose Blanchard Launches Anti-Bullying Initiative Following Partner's Untimely Death

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is transforming her personal grief into a public advocacy effort after the unexpected death of her partner, Kenan "Ken" Urker. Blanchard, 35, revealed that Urker had endured "an overwhelming amount of online scrutiny" before his passing, prompting her to urge her social media audience to support an anti-bullying petition in his memory.

"I only have my daughter and my voice," Blanchard stated on her social media platforms over the recent weekend. "In honor of Ken, I am asking for your support for Kenan’s Law." She elaborated that before his death, Ken was subjected to extensive online scrutiny, which she and others believed crossed into targeted harassment and cyberbullying.

Blanchard recounted that various reports were submitted across numerous platforms regarding the harassment, but the response was frequently "No violation."

Advocating for 'Kenan's Law'

"Kenan’s Law is about changing the way social-media platforms handle repeated reports of harassment," Blanchard explained. She argued that a single post viewed in isolation might not convey the full picture, but hundreds of posts, videos, and comments directed at one individual can reveal a concerning pattern that warrants thorough review.

She emphasized that this initiative is not intended to silence criticism or infringe upon anyone’s freedom of speech. Blanchard acknowledged that public figures are subject to criticism and should be held accountable. However, she stressed that public figures are fundamentally human beings, and celebrity status should never diminish their humanity.

Blanchard added, "Ken’s passing has made me determined to turn pain into purpose. I cannot change what happened, but I can advocate for a better system for the next person who feels like no one is listening." She encouraged her followers to sign and share the petition, reiterating her message: "Fame does not erase humanity. A pattern cannot always be understood one post at a time."

Circumstances Surrounding Urker's Death

In a statement provided to PEOPLE, Blanchard indicated her belief that Urker died from a drug overdose. "I don’t know if it was intentional or not," Blanchard told the publication, adding, "He was not in a good state of mind lately."

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed that Urker was discovered deceased inside his Louisiana residence on a Thursday, following a request for a welfare check by concerned loved ones. According to an incident report, Anita Blanchard, who is Gypsy Rose Blanchard's half-brother's wife, and her husband visited the 34-year-old's home. They observed Urker lying unconscious through an outside window.

The report details that a man accompanying Anita Blanchard and her husband then gained entry into the house through a window, where they found Urker unresponsive, not breathing, and cold to the touch. Investigators at the scene recovered syringes and a spoon alongside a brown powdery substance in the bathroom. Additionally, a handgun, two shot glasses, and a syringe were found on a nightstand beside the bed, as per the report.

Deputies noted that Urker "appeared to have been there for an extended period of time." The sheriff's office stated that if circumstances change or any significant updates emerge in the ongoing investigation, a new statement would be issued.

Blanchard's Past and Relationship History

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016 after pleading guilty to second-degree murder for her involvement in the fatal stabbing of her mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard, alongside her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn. The tragic events served as the inspiration for the 2019 Hulu television series, "The Act."

Godejohn received a life sentence without parole. Blanchard was granted parole and released in December 2023, having served 85% of her sentence.

Urker and Gypsy Rose Blanchard initially became engaged in 2018 during her incarceration but later separated. The couple reconnected after Blanchard's first marriage concluded, and they welcomed their daughter, Aurora, on December 28, 2024.
