A standard traffic stop along Interstate 65 in Kentucky turned deadly on Monday when a state trooper was fatally shot, initiating a widespread search that concluded with the suspect in custody.
Trooper Hayden Phillips, 30, lost his life on I-65 in Warren County. He is survived by his wife and their three young sons.
He was senselessly murdered. We have a wife that expected her husband to come home. We have three little boys who don’t have a dad.
U.S. Attorney Kyle Bumgarner stated at a Monday night news conference, highlighting the profound impact of the loss. Phillips, a three-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police, was assigned to Post 3 in Bowling Green. He was a graduate of Cadet Class 103 and was known to his colleagues as Unit 369.
