Governor DeSantis strongly denied claims he is laying groundwork for a future White House bid, labeling a recent report as fabricated.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has emphatically pushed back against a recent report indicating he is organizing a potential presidential campaign for 2028, accusing the publication of inventing assertions that he has contacted political strategists regarding a future candidacy.
"The Washington Post is fabricating this out of whole cloth," Governor DeSantis posted on the social media platform X. "I have not reached out to anybody about running for anything."
He further criticized the report, adding, "Just another pathetic attempt to garner clicks. Using anonymous sources of course!"
Allegations of Future Campaign Planning
The report, published on Friday, cited three individuals reportedly informed about the governor's intentions, stating that DeSantis was making preparations to seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2028. The article claimed that Governor DeSantis, who previously sought the 2024 presidency unsuccessfully and is term-limited after 2026, had already engaged with at least one national political consultant concerning work on a prospective campaign.
Additionally, the report noted that a federal super PAC associated with Governor DeSantis had distributed a fundraising text message earlier in the week.
Governor's Continued Denials
Governor DeSantis persisted in refuting the allegations through interactions with users on social media. When one user expressed optimism that the news report was accurate, the governor responded, confirming he was "sorry to disappoint."
He also addressed another user who speculated that political consultants might be leveraging his name for attention, stating, "Probably the case. But maybe just made up by WaPo."
Political Climate and Past Campaigns
The emergence of speculation surrounding Governor DeSantis's political trajectory follows closely on the heels of significant setbacks for Republicans in the recent midterm elections. The party experienced substantial losses, including control of both legislative chambers in Congress and several traditionally Republican strongholds across the nation.
Florida, however, stood out as a success for the GOP, contrasting with national trends.
"This is close to an an extinction-level event for Republicans," Governor DeSantis remarked on Wednesday, cautioning that among the ten most populous states in the nation, Florida would be the sole state under complete Republican governmental control.
Governor DeSantis previously campaigned for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination but withdrew his candidacy in January 2024 following the Iowa caucuses, subsequently endorsing Donald Trump.
The governor, whose current term concludes in January 2027, has previously indicated he might consider another presidential campaign in the future.
