Former NBA Player Jason Williams Criticizes LeBron James' National Anthem Conduct
Jason Williams, a retired NBA point guard, asserted that players should "stand the f--- still" during the national anthem, specifically addressing LeBron James' pre-game routine.

Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James has consistently drawn public scrutiny for his actions during the national anthem, often seen swaying or mimicking a golf swing. This behavior has garnered widespread notice, including comments from high-profile figures, including the president of the United States.
The latest to voice an opinion on the matter is former NBA player Jason Williams, who expressed strong disapproval.
Williams' Unreserved Critique
Williams, a former point guard who played 12 seasons for teams including the Grizzlies, Kings, Heat, and Magic, discussed James' pre-game routine on a recent episode of Barstool Sports' "Hoopin’ N Hollerin'" podcast. He offered an unreserved critique.
I do. I think motherf---ers should just stand the f--- still during the national anthem. That’s just my opinion.
Williams clarified that while he personally harbored no strong feelings about James' individual actions, he maintained his stance that players should remain stationary during the anthem.
You’re supposed to stand still! Look, they’re all dressed the same. He’s dressed different. Guaranteed he got fined because you’re all supposed to be dressed the same. You’re supposed to be standing still. When I played, that was the rules. They could’ve changed the s--- now, but I guarantee he got fined.
No Fines Issued by NBA
However, it is important to clarify that the NBA has not issued any fines to James regarding his conduct during the national anthem.
Williams is not alone in his critique; other prominent figures, including former President Donald Trump, have also voiced objections to James' anthem routine. NBA legend Charles Barkley, a co-host on "Inside the NBA," previously criticized James for similar reasons, emphasizing the expectation to stand still during the anthem.
