Army Secretary Dan Driscoll Submits Resignation Amid Reported Tensions
The top Army civilian official's departure follows disagreements over military transformation and leadership changes within the administration.

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation to President Trump, according to an official familiar with the situation. The White House has not yet formally accepted the resignation, leaving its final status pending.
Disagreements Over Army Leadership and Modernization
A source indicated that Driscoll voiced concerns to the administration regarding the direction of Army transformation and readiness initiatives. These efforts were reportedly hindered by Hegseth, who is said to have specifically obstructed progress by dismissing the generals responsible for these programs.
Reports suggest that tensions escalated as Hegseth initiated the removal of several high-ranking Army officials, notably including Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George.
Driscoll's Background and Public Comments
Driscoll publicly addressed General George’s departure during an April 16 House Appropriations subcommittee hearing. He recounted being on vacation with his family in North Carolina when he learned of George being asked to resign, prompting him to drive directly to the general’s residence.
"We walked right in, and we all gave him a hug," Driscoll stated. "There is no person that has more respect for General George and his 42 years of service, his Purple Heart, his wife, Patty, their grandkids, their kids. I adore them, and he was an amazing, transformational leader."
He further commented on the nature of leadership appointments, saying,
"The design of our system is that they get to pick the leaders that they want, and we execute on those orders."<
According to The Wall Street Journal, Driscoll is anticipated to depart from the Pentagon within the coming days.
Driscoll shares a close relationship with Vice President JD Vance, having attended Yale Law School together after both concluded their military service.
Throughout his tenure as Army Secretary, Driscoll actively engaged with Silicon Valley technology firms to enhance the Army’s capabilities in drone technology.
