Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams resumed full practice participation on Thursday, marking his first complete session in nearly a month. However, his subsequent press conference quickly became a tense exchange regarding the details of his hamstring injury.
Williams Confronts Media Over Injury Classification
Williams steadfastly refused to reveal the precise medical grade of what he described as a "pretty serious" hamstring tear. He shut down reporters who pressed for more clarity on why he chose to keep the diagnosis private.
"Because it's not deserving," Williams told the assembled media.
This pointed interaction followed a five-minute opening statement in which Williams strongly criticized national reporting, accusing it of attempting to force his injury into a simplified Grade 2 recovery timeline.
"There's nothing that has come out that has been right about what it is and what it has been," he asserted.
The Initial Injury and Emotional Response
Williams initially suffered the injury late in the Bears' Week 2 defeat against the Minnesota Vikings. He pulled up short during a fourth-quarter scramble toward the end zone and was subsequently carted off the field, visibly emotional.
"I felt a pop," Williams recalled. "That's why I looked back. I looked back just like everybody else does when you feel a pop. Think somebody grabbed you and nobody grabbed me."
On Thursday, Williams did not shy away from discussing his emotional exit, defending his raw reaction as evidence of his deep commitment to his teammates. "I'm always going to show emotion, especially when I can't be out there with the guys," Williams stated. "Everybody making jokes and all of that, but that doesn't bother me."
Rehabilitation Efforts and Return Status
Williams detailed a rigorous rehabilitation regimen, involving five to six hours of daily therapy. He reported successfully reaching top sprint speeds during recent workout sessions.
Despite logging consecutive full practice designations this week, his availability for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons remains uncertain, pending final medical clearance.
"Before you start asking, do not know if I'm playing yet," Williams cautioned. "If I'm good to go, I'm good to go. If I'm not and we're just not ready, then we got to wait."
