Several Workers Hospitalized After Forklift Incident at Ed Sheeran Detroit Concert

Six individuals sustained injuries on Saturday evening during the post-concert equipment breakdown at Ford Field in Detroit, following a performance by musician Ed Sheeran.

Emergency services from the Detroit Fire Department were dispatched to the stadium at approximately 11 p.m. in response to what was described as a "forklift injury accident." Subsequently, six members of the production crew were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Incident Details

Reports from some of the affected workers indicate they were on a scheduled break when the heavy machinery reportedly "lost control," striking multiple individuals. The incident occurred as the stage infrastructure was being dismantled in the vicinity of a vehicle tunnel.

One crew member was discharged from the hospital on Sunday after an overnight observation period. Another individual, who sustained a blow to the chest, described the event as unprecedented, stating, "I'd never experienced anything like that" and noting that it "happened in a split second."

While none of the injuries sustained by those transported to hospitals were deemed life-threatening, initial assessments during transport indicated two patients were in serious condition, with the remaining four listed as stable.

A representative for Ford Field confirmed that one of the injured parties was an employee of the venue.

Venue's Response and Ongoing Tour

Ford Field released a statement confirming a comprehensive internal review is underway. The venue stated, "Ford Field has begun a full review and is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and with the event’s production partners." Emphasizing respect for those involved and the investigative process, the statement added, "Out of respect for the people involved and the integrity of that review, we will not speculate on the cause. We are grateful to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their rapid response."

The incident occurred during the ongoing "Loop Tour" by the artist known for hits like "Shape of You." This extensive tour, which commenced in January to promote his eighth studio album, "Play," encompasses 57 scheduled performances. The tour is set to recommence on September 4 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and is slated to conclude in December with a two-night engagement in Mexico City.
