A Bipartisan White House Gathering
Kid Rock, the renowned musician, recently shared insights into a high-profile dinner he attended at the White House. The gathering included former President Donald Trump, comedian Bill Maher, and sports commentator Stephen A. Smith.
The artist recounted that despite their varied political affiliations, the four individuals found common ground on a critical issue: their collective belief that socialism and communism should not gain influence within the American government.
He specifically mentioned Michigan Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed, characterizing his platform as advocating for socialist ideals.
Describing the conversation as "epic," Kid Rock emphasized the significance of the meeting. He highlighted the ability of two Democrats and two Republicans to "sit down, break bread, have laughs, talk about, have tough conversations on a lot of the issues."
Key Topics and Discussions
The wide-ranging discussion covered various pressing subjects. Kid Rock noted topics such as the potential war in Iran and the broader issues of socialism and communism.
Bill Maher, according to Kid Rock, raised concerns about the process of extracting interpreters from Afghanistan who had assisted American forces.
Stephen A. Smith actively participated, focusing on unemployment rates among Black women and the critical funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Kid Rock pointed out that President Trump had allocated $174 million to historically Black universities and colleges in 2016.
Kid Rock further recounted Smith's observation:
"With Trump putting a dagger through the heart of DEI, it seems like it's scared off a lot of corporate money coming to HBCUs."
In response, Kid Rock conveyed a message he attributed to the Trump administration: "not only do we support, we want to encourage corporations to continue funding HBCUs and donating to them. We know how important education is, especially in the Black community, to strengthen Black families."
Maher's Continued Dialogue with Trump
This recent dinner was not the first time Maher and Kid Rock had dined with Trump at the White House; a previous encounter occurred in 2025.
Maher himself recently disclosed plans for another meeting with the former president during a conversation with Hollywood agent Ari Emanuel on his "Club Random" podcast.
"I'm having dinner with him again next week," Maher stated. He explained that after their initial dinner, he resumed his usual activities, but then Trump unexpectedly extended another invitation.
Maher found Trump to be "really nice" and recounted a humorous exchange. Trump reportedly promised, "I promise I won't say bad things about you like I did the last time."
Maher's reply via text was candid: "You know what, you're the president of the United States. Say whatever the f--- you want. I'm just glad we're talking." He likened Trump's remarks to being called a "hockey puck" by comedian Don Rickles, characterizing it as part of Trump's distinctive communication style.
New Album Features Diverse Collaborations
In other news, Kid Rock also discussed his latest album, "Halfway 2 Jesus." The record features collaborations with a diverse array of artists, including Eminem and Lil Wayne.
He explained that Lil Wayne's involvement came about last minute. "Because me and Eminem decided a different song we did was more powerful than the other one we did, so it left a void there. And Lil Wayne, just being the ace he is. I mean, just, as solid as human beings come."
Kid Rock emphasized the album's inclusive nature, stating that it incorporates "voices of all kinds of different backgrounds and political beliefs."
He expressed his deep appreciation and commitment to Lil Wayne, saying, "Wayne, whatever you need me for, I will always be there... If you need to come change your tires, I'll be there to rotate them, whatever."
Beyond Eminem and Lil Wayne, other notable guests on the album include Gary LeVox and Jimmie Allen, alongside a variety of musicians, songwriters, and engineers. Kid Rock highlighted that these individuals, despite their "different backgrounds, different religions, different political beliefs," united to create what he described as a "powerful, very beautiful piece of work."
He concluded by noting the importance of promoting this particular album, stating, "I'm promoting the message of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And that's bigger than me."
